Take Your Negotiation Skills to the Next Level!
Skilled negotiators know that negotiation is about more than understanding the conflict, the applicable law and the other side’s position. In this seminar, negotiation expert Nina Meierding delves into the process and the minds of negotiators to provide attendees with a deeper understanding of the strategic and psychological dynamics of negotiation.
In this advanced skills training Nina Meierding focuses on four key areas that many lawyers struggle with:

How to Deal with Different Perspectives of Reality (90 MINUTES)
Parties and attorneys sometimes hold on to their positions and their versions of the facts in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Why do people have such a difficult time acknowledging they have made a mistake? How do people create their realities and can they be changed? This session will discuss the differences between self-justification, rationalization, source confusion, the power of irrevocability, and inconsequential decision-making and how each can create a different kind of impasse. We will then explore customized strategies and practical techniques to help people move towards agreement and resolution.
Negotiating Numbers: Sometimes It Really Is Just About the Money (90 MINUTES)
While we often search for hidden value and explore underlying interests in order to expand the negotiation “pie,” sometimes negotiations are simply about dollars. Learn how the predictability of the “numbers dance” can help you more strategically get better results for your clients.
How to Negotiate with Highly Competitive People: Understanding the Power of Tactics (90 MINUTES)
Some negotiators act competitively even when it is in their best interest to be cooperative. This session will focus on how to work with people who are intentionally trying to distract you from your negotiating goals through the use of tactics. You will learn:
The Art and Science of the Apology (90 MINUTES)
Apologies can create reconciliation and a deeper level of satisfaction in a negotiation, however, even with the best intentions, an apology can also create havoc and increased conflict. This session will explore the many types of apologies (including rapport, transactional, full and partial) as well as the effect of timing, delivery, emotionality and sincerity. We will also discuss how different concepts of fairness and truth can impact both the giving and receiving of apologies.
