It is no surprise that legal professionals are often pressed for time while they juggle firm demands. Long hours, harsh billing demands, pressure to generate business, a rapidly changing and increasingly complex legal landscape…not to mention the demands in your personal life. This leaves you at risk for chronic stress and professional burnout, hence the need for effective energy, stress, and conflict management practices. It’s certainly not the case for all lawyers, yet the grim statistics reported by the CDC and many other institutions on stress-related illness, alcohol and drug dependency, and suicide point to a profession under stress. Luckily, stress is a well-studied topic, and it all starts with awareness; in order to manage something, we first have to be aware of it. This self-awareness needs to be followed by the ability to intervene and take care of our well-being such as by implementing stress prevention and management practices.
