Breaking the Silence: Mental Health, Substance Use, and Resilience in the Legal Profession

Originally presented:  October 27, 2025     |     Course length:  1.0 hour

The legal profession faces unique pressures that can take a significant toll on mental health and well-being. Chronic stress, if left unaddressed, can lead to burnout, substance use issues, anxiety, and depression—conditions more common among lawyers than in many other professions. This program explores the continuum of stress, the impact of trauma exposure, and the signs and symptoms of emerging mental health or substance use problems. Participants will learn practical strategies for early intervention, how to recognize and support colleagues in distress, and how to access confidential help. The session also highlights the role of peer support and resources such as Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers in fostering a healthier, more resilient legal community.
