Elimination of Bias: From Humphrey to Today – The Evolution of Civil Rights Enforcement in Minneapolis

Participants will explore Mayor Hubert Humphrey's groundbreaking 1945 Fair Employment Practices Commission, the nation's first municipal civil rights enforcement body, and its evolution into today's Minneapolis Commission on Civil Rights. This program will also detail the work of the Complaint Investigations Division of the Minneapolis Civil Rights Department, including reflections from investigators on discrimination trends in Minneapolis, and the resources available to those who live, work, and visit Minneapolis who may have experienced discrimination. Lastly, participants will learn about the recently added protected classes.
