Connected and Automated Vehicles: Where Are They (and the Law) Headed?
In this discussion, a litigator, cybersecurity expert, and member of the Minnesota Governor’s Advisory Council on Connected and Automated Vehicles will give his personal observations and views on:

  • The current state of connected and automated vehicle technology
  • How the technology is being regulated by local, state, and federal laws
  • Nascent litigation trends
  • Potential pitfalls related to liability, cybersecurity, government transparency, and privacy.

The road to full Level 5 autonomy will be bumpy, and this presentation will map the potential potholes.

Drones and the Law: A Look at Legal and Illegal Operations of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)
This presentation will discuss the difference between hobby drones and commercial drones, a glimpse of the various applications of drone technology, and will examine the current state of the Federal Aviation Regulations regarding the use of drones, as well as the Federal Aviation Administration’s proposal for future regulations.

Blockchains and the Law – Understanding Smart Contracts, Cryptocurrencies, and Non-Fungible Tokens
As smart contracts start to gain traction it is important to understand what they are and the blockchain technology by which they operate. We will discuss how smart contracts can be used today, their limitations, and future implications. In addition, we will explore the basics of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and non-fungible tokens and how they interplay with smart contracts. It is more important than ever to understand these emerging technologies, the current and potential legal implications, and the role of lawyers with assisting in the implementation and practice of smart contracts.
