Bankruptcy and Fair Debt Concerns for Housing Attorneys (60 MINUTES)
Attendees will learn about the complex interplay between the federal Bankruptcy Code and state landlord-tenant law, including owner and tenant rights and remedies with consumer Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filings. In addition, learn how the Bankruptcy Code’s automatic stay provisions implicate additional liability under the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) and Minnesota’s consumer protection statutes.

Understanding and Managing Secondary Trauma and Compassion Fatigue in Legal Work (60 MINUTES)

Learn what secondary trauma is and the role it plays in other conditions including burnout, compassion fatigue, depression, anxiety, and substance use disorder. This program will assist in recognizing your exposure to other people’s trauma and how that exposure can harm your ability to fulfill your obligations as an attorney. The presentation will provide strategies and resources that will help you to handle the effects of the occupational hazard of working with other individuals’ trauma. This includes consultation with LCL, EAPs and other resources that assist attorneys and their staff with these complicated issues.
