Somali Americans are a growing population in our community and across the country. Understanding the unique perspectives of Somali American clients is key to successfully working together. Presenters, a licensed social worker and a Somali American mediator, will explore aspects of Somali culture and communication crucial to understanding your client’s interests and needs. Topics include:

  • Somali/refugee culture, migration, acculturation 
  • Western vs. Somali/refugee mental health
  • Engaging with Somali clients, barriers and challenges
  • Cross-cultural communication
