Postconviction Topics Webcast Series

A conviction may seem like the end of the road for your client. However, there are steps available to appeal a conviction or to obtain postconviction relief. Also, your client may want to seal the conviction from publicly accessible records under Minnesota’s expungement laws. This series will explore what postconviction remedies are available and provide practical tips and procedures for pursuing these various remedies.

Learn what remedies are available to your client under Minnesota Statutes Chapter 590 and Minnesota Rules of Criminal Procedure, Rule 27. This course will demonstrate the key differences between these two forms of relief and provide practical tips on pursuing either of these postconviction remedies.

This course will examine the rules governing appeals in criminal cases, establish when the rules authorize defense and prosecution appeals from judgments, sentences, and orders, and the requirements for perfecting those appeals. This course will also cover basic standards of review for different kinds of appeals and provide strategies and tips on the most frequent types of appeals.

Postconviction Topics: A Crash Course Into Minnesota’s Statutory and Judicial Expungement Laws
Join Andrew C. Wilson, Wilson Criminal Defense, for an overview of Minnesota's criminal expungement laws. This course will include a brief history of criminal expungements in Minnesota, a review of Minn. Stat. § 609A et. seq. and recent case law impacting expungement statutes (including State v. S.A.M.). This course will explore the difference between statutory and judicial expungements and provide practice tips and pointers for practitioners interested in pursuing expungements on behalf their clients.
