"Humanitarian protections" in U.S. immigration law are legal mechanisms designed to protect noncitizens who cannot safely return to their home countries or who face extraordinary humanitarian circumstances. Although there are many different protections under this umbrella, this presentation will focus primarily on asylum, refugee, and temporary protected status.
