This session will provide an overview of Minnesota drainage law and its impact on property owners. The presentation will address the historic perspective the role drainage played in the development of Minnesota’s economy and discuss current issues affecting property ownership, interests and expectations. The presentation will explore the statutory and common law bases of property interests in drainage and associated benefits and burdens. Additionally, we will discuss issues that arise most often at the intersection of drainage and property law.
