In 2021, the headlines were dominated by stories about singer Britney Spears’ efforts to end a California conservatorship that had been in place for 13 years. Her public struggle has brought attention to guardianships and conservatorships nationwide with many people questioning the usefulness of these types of proceedings for persons like Ms. Spears. This presentation will focus on evaluating existing guardianships and conservatorships to determine if the person subject to the proceeding should be restored to capacity.
