The Covid-19 pandemic has changed nearly every aspect of "business as usual," and estate planning is no exception. In this one-hour course, we will survey major changes that have occurred in the wealth transfer landscape, discuss anticipated alterations to the federal estate tax regime, and look at options for helping clients navigate this unprecedented environment. Specific topics addressed will include: (1) counseling clients on tax and economic uncertainty; and (2) leveraging lifetime transfer techniques for historically low interest rates, such as intra-family loans, spousal lifetime access trusts (“SLATs”), grantor retained annuity trusts (“GRATs”), and installment sales to intentionally defective grantor trusts (“IDGTs”).
