Mapping Prejudice: Uncovering the Hidden Racial Bias and Privilege in the Twin Cities
1.0 elimination of bias credit applied for
The Mapping Prejudice Project is mapping racial covenants in the Twin Cities to study the impacts of how structural racism shaped the urban landscape, blocking African Americans and minorities from critical avenues for housing stability and wealth accumulation. These covenants were embedded into property deeds to bar non-white people from buying or even occupying property. Even though the 1968 Fair Housing Act made such covenants illegal, their legacy continues to impact the racial geography of the Twin Cities. Learn the history of how racially restrictive property deeds and redlining negatively impacted the administration of justice and hear about next steps on how to address the damage wrought by these policies.
