This session will discuss the collateral consequences of criminal records, give an overview of current expungement law, review laws regarding cannabis use, and introduce you to the tools you need to successfully represent pro bono clients.

How to Litigate the New Extreme Risk Protection Order and Other Protection Orders
Minnesota’s new Extreme Risk Protection Order, also referred to as a “red flag” law, prohibits a respondent from possessing or purchasing a firearm for the duration of the order. Get a primer on Extreme Risk Protection Orders and other orders for protection under Minn. Stat. 518B.01, gain a better understanding of intimate partner violence and get insights into successful strategies for handling these important cases.

How to Assist Parents With Issues of Custody and Paternity
Learn the basic information you need to know in order to assist unmarried fathers and mothers. This session includes the meaning and legal effect of custody labels, the administrative and judicial processes used to establish paternity, and the intersection between the establishment of paternity and child support. Discover how to assist unmarried parents in developing parenting schedules that meet the best interests of their children.
