There remains a persistent belief in the legal profession that a successful attorney should not experience anxiety in their professional lives. Many legal professionals have been told that they cannot practice in high-stakes litigation or work for certain firms if they have any type of anxiety. However, as we continue to learn about mental health, the evidence shows that how one deals with anxiety is more important than whether one experiences it. Therefore, the profession is well-served to overcome this bias against anxiety by focusing on recognizing, mitigating, and even capitalizing on anxiety among its members.
