Serving Clients in Crisis

Originally presented:  May 3, 2022     |     Course length:  1.0 hour

Lawyers often see clients who appear to be suffering from substance misuse, addiction, or other impairments, plus the legal process itself is stressful. While it is not our job to diagnose, what is our ethical role and responsibility and opportunity? How can we recognize a problem and what are some methods for supporting and redirecting a client? What if the issue is not with a client but with a colleague? What are our ethical responsibilities and humanitarian options? The answers are seldom simple. This program will provide an ethical framework for lawyers facing these questions in addition to practical guidance and resources.
