Making Meetings Matter More

Originally presented:  August 7, 2020     |     Course length:  1.0 hour

Let’s be honest. Many meetings aren’t just monotonous and time-consuming, they are chaotic, boring, and they drain your energy. You dread yet another gathering with endless discussions, repetitions, and positioning while the elephant remains in the room and, in some cases, clear decisions and results are lacking. Considering the tremendous pressures and work-loads in the legal field, these tiring meetings can cause a rush of cortisol, adrenaline, and other stress hormones that you can certainly do without. In this presentation, you will learn how to increase relevance, energy, focus, and productivity in meetings. And, of course, this session will address all these aspects in the context of conducting your meetings virtually, which comes with unique challenges and solutions. Whether virtual or in-person, it is possible to hold meetings that people want to attend and that deliver results. But it does require you to shift your meeting-mindset and to apply practical meeting principals and tools.

Join Carolien Moors, M.Psych. and M.Ed. for tips on how you can make your in-person and virtual meetings more successful. Topics include:

  • Five must-haves for a successful meeting
  • Responsibilities of meeting attendees and discussion leader
  • Ingredients for the ‘Meetings Matter Mindset’
  • Caring and confronting as elements of team effectiveness
  • Managing ineffective behavior with candor and confrontation
  • Improving meetings by improving decision-making
  • Specific principles and practices for virtual meetings
  • Regulating emotions during meetings
  • Ways to encourage substantive debate and effective disagreement
  • Unconventional ways to invigorate your meetings
