Originally presented:  August 28, 2020     |     Course length:  2.0 hours

Are We Addicted to Our Smart Phones?
As humans we are wired to respond to the social aspect of a smart phone. When we get a text, email, notification, message or the like, our brains release a pleasure chemical called dopamine. That bit of dopamine keeps us coming back for more.  Learn what you need to know about the neuroscience behind our heavy societal smart phone use- in order to help yourself, our clients, your colleagues and others use this technology in the most informed way possible.

Unplug Before Your Burn Out: Smart Use of Smart Phones for Attorney Mental Health
Smart phones make lawyers more connected and mobile – able and ready to respond to client needs effectively and efficiently. The technology is a boost – it also has its downsides; several recent studies have examined the impact of technology and social media use through smart phones on mental health, revealing an alarming picture (especially in the context of the legal profession, where lawyer are already burdened with extraordinary anxiety and mental health challenges). This session will examine the impact of smart phones in the legal profession and outline key tips and behaviors that lawyers can undertake to use their phones in practice in ways that are aligned with personal and professional well-being.
