Recent years have seen an increased focus on the workplace rights of LGBTQ+ individuals. The Trump administration has, however, signaled a shift away from the Obama administration’s agenda of expanding federal LGBTQ+ protections. As such, federal law is likely to remain unsettled for some time and to evolve, on a piecemeal basis, through the federal courts. Apart from federal law, a minority of states – including MN – clearly prohibit LGBTQ+ discrimination in the workplace. This presentation will ensure that attendees are up to date on the current state of the law surrounding LGBTQ+ discrimination, the evolving federal political climate around LGBTQ+ rights, potential religious exemptions, and best practices when adopting policies of LGBTQ+ inclusion for legal or other reasons.
