INTRODUCTION

9:00 – 9:30 a.m.
Cannabis and Motor Vehicle Use
Since the recent legalization of recreational cannabis, questions have arisen about how much is too much with regard to operation of a motor vehicle? What right of action do victims of a crash have when the responsible tortfeasor was intoxicated and illegally sold cannabis? And how do you prove it? In this important segment Racey Rodne will review Minn. Stat. § 342.81 and its impact on a significant change in Minnesota law.
– Racey Rodne

9:30 – 10:00 a.m.
Alcohol Related Claims
What happens when a motor vehicle accident involves a drunk driver? What are the available options of recovery for a Plaintiff, including dram shop, social host liability and claims of negligent supervision of minors. And, from a defense perspective, how do you protect your client from a claim of punitive damages for which there is no insurance coverage or hope of discharging in bankruptcy. Matt Johnson, an experienced insurance defense lawyer will share his experiences in defending these claims and protecting his clients from significant financial consequences.
– Matt Johnson

10:00 – 10:30 a.m.
The Science of Toxicology
In claims and defenses involving alcohol, cannabis, and other drug use, what is the science behind determining intoxication? What evidence and information is needed? Hear from a former professor of Biological Sciences and a Consultant in Forensic Toxicology regarding how he analyzes and provides opinions on the overuse of these substances and the impact on dram shop and other claims.
