For nearly 3 years, the state of Minnesota, particularly the Twin Cities has been the poster child for racial injustice, indigenous disparities and tensions between citizens, law enforcement and the legal system. This in addition to learning to navigate a post pandemic climate presents unique challenges for elder law professionals in your state. Overcoming these and other barriers and challenges while building rapport with your communities is very possible by learning from and through those you wish to serve.

What You Need to Know About Medical Assistance Estate Recovery and Liens
Federal and state law require the Department of Human Services (DHS) and local agencies to make claims against the estates of certain deceased MA members, or the estates of the deceased members’ surviving spouses, to recover the amount MA paid for certain health care services. DHS and local agencies collect these costs in two ways – estate recovery and liens. Learn from a staff attorney at the DHS the basis for recovering these costs as he uses common examples and scenarios to demonstrate the rules regarding estate recovery and liens.
