Legal Writing Practicum: Interactive, Hands-On Training
The best way to improve your legal writing is to practice. In this interactive afternoon session, you’ll work through realistic drafting examples and scenarios with Karin Ciano and an all-star team of writing coaches. Using real-life versions of the documents that litigators and transactional attorneys draft most frequently, you’ll:

  • Practice proof-reading a legal brief to improve conciseness and persuasiveness;
  • Practice redlining common transactional agreements from both sides of the negotiation, in pursuit of clarity, operational simplification, and dispute avoidance;
  • Practice drafting and reviewing common types of legal correspondence to improve conciseness, readability, and empathy (i.e., plain English); and
  • Receive assistance and insight on any of your current legal writing challenges (with care to not reveal any confidential information).

You’ll also review samples of exemplary legal writing, discuss what makes it exemplary, and come away with a checklist of practical and easy principles to apply to your own legal writing.

Remember to bring your laptops and any sample (clean) documents that you’d like to work on as part of the practicum!
