Immigration Consequences of Criminal Activity
The panel will discuss criminality,
removability and inadmissibility; how the impact of criminal offenses
figures into charging or plea bargaining; impact on naturalization; drug
offenses; DWIs; plea agreements to prevent deportation and also allow
for readmission to the U.S.; and differences between state and
immigration law in how each defines the term "conviction".

The Strategic Use of Litigation in
Immigration Cases and in Cases Involving Immigrants
The panel will address the intersection of
employment/civil rights law and immigration law and cutting-edge
litigation tactics in cases involving immigrants; including:

discovery into immigration status of
plaintiffs and material witnesses

pursuing claims under pseudonyms to minimize
retaliation and other intimidation tactics; and

obtaining protective orders regarding
predicate claims and subsequent litigation abuse.
The panel will also discuss mandamus and
declaratory actions; immigration litigation trends, usefulness of class
actions; and negotiation with AUSA.
